Thinking about a Golden Retriever as a pet? There are a few things you should consider before you take the plunge.
You’ve always wanted a second shadow. Goldens are known for their affectionate, people loving nature. They are also know for being wonderful followers. They enjoy being with you all of the time and following you where ever you go. So if having a full time buddy doesn’t sound like something you’re ready for, you may not be ready for a Golden Retriever.
You enjoy sloppy kisses. Along with a cold nose to wake you in the mornings, giving big sloppy kisses is something a Golden is really good at!
You always wanted to be a groomer. Goldens require brushing regularly, a couple of times a week in fact. Their beautiful golden locks need your loving care to help maintan their beauty.
You don’t mind a little hair. Ok, so it’s a lot of hair really. Goldens are shedding all the time, sometimes heavier than others. Even with regular brushing, you’ll start to find hair in the corners of all the rooms in your house, your carpet will take on a Golden hue and it’s true, everything tastes better with dog hair!
You are always looking for a good laugh. Goldens are sure to keep a smile on your face. You can’t have a bad day with a Golden in your life because they can always make you feel good. And, they have beautiful smiles themselves!
You are looking for an exercise partner. Goldens need regular exercise to help maintain their health. A good 30 minute walk a day is not only good for them but it’s good for you too!
You would like to meet new people. It doesn’t matter where you go, everyone you meet owns a Golden, has owned a Golden or knows someone who does. And be ready to share some good stories, because as you will find out, Goldens give you a lot to talk about.
You are in need of a welcoming committee.Goldens can definitely benefit from some good obedience lessons, and you will see proof of this the first time your friends come to visit you. While Goldens make terrible guard dogs, they are great at inviting everyone in to play.
You have a thing for BIG dogs. You know what they say about large paws, right? We all know that Goldens are adorable puppies, but those cut little butter balls grow up to weigh anywhere from 50 to 80 pounds. Goldens make great coach buddies when you just want to relax!
You don’t mind sharing your bed. Back to number one, Goldens love to be with you, so that means all the time. And Goldens can be quite the bed hog if you’re not carefully. But they are the best heating blanket!
So if you agreed to all of the above, you are ready to be owned by a Golden Retriever!
